Many survivors of trauma that I have worked with over the years have struggled to explain their symptoms and needs to friends and family. Often friends and family wish to be supportive but do not know how. At times, what is best for the survivor is not what the support person would expect to be helpful. The guides below are a great place to start when looking for clear tips on how to be supportive to someone with PTSD. These guides also explain more about the symptoms of PTSD and some of the recommended treatments. If you have PTSD, you may wish to share these with supportive friends and family. If you know someone with PTSD, this can be a starting point to understanding what your loved one needs.
